The North American Council for Freight Efficiency (NACFE) has identified 10 actions to help fleets achieve 10+ mpg in over the highway operations.<\/span><\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

The recommendations come from the NACFE’s \u00abRun on Less\u00bb program<\/a><\/span> which uses real world fleet test results to highlight the best possible use of efficiency technologies, operational practices and driver capabilities. The program demonstrates what the most innovative fleets can accomplish in terms of fuel economy and freight efficiency.<\/span><\/p>\n

As reported by Fleet Owner magazine<\/a><\/span>,<\/span> here are the top 10 actions recommended by the NACFE:<\/span><\/p>\n

    \n
  1. Build a culture of methodically choosing technologies.<\/span><\/li>\n
  2. Keep equipment well maintained.<\/span><\/li>\n
  3. Implement the right axle configuration.<\/span><\/li>\n
  4. Provide tools to reduce idle time.<\/span><\/li>\n
  5. Educate and incentivize conscientious drivers.<\/span><\/li>\n
  6. Buy all available tractor aerodynamics.<\/span><\/li>\n
  7. Optimize cruise control and vehicle speed.<\/span><\/li>\n
  8. Use downsped powertrains and AMTs.<\/span><\/li>\n
  9. Embrace low rolling resistance tires.<\/span><\/strong><\/li>\n
  10. Adopt appropriate trailer aerodynamics.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
